Spicewood
Initiated as a post office in 1899, Spicewood served the neighboring communities as the focus of community life. In 1919, Spicewood became the official name of the local school district, prospering much later with the introduction of Farm Road 93 (later State Highway 71) in the 1940s. The road encouraged several businesses and homesteaders, yet keeping Spicewood a small dot on the map. The huge population influx came in later years, starting from just over 100 residents in 1990 to over 5,000 residents in 2000, more than doubling to its present count, approximated at over 12,000. The hill county views, vast waterfront property and playful lifestyle contribute to the growing population.

As part of Texas Hill Country, Spicewood presents a beautiful landscape for residents to enjoy. Filled with winding roads and rivers, wildflowers, ghost towns and towns with funny names, Hill Country welcomes millions of visitors annually for its abundant wildlife and open fields of colorful flowers. Spicewood offers several recreational highlights of all water sports throughout the year including boating, water skiing, sailing, scuba diving, wake boarding, and fishing. Lake Travis has been deemed the cleanest reservoir in Texas by the state’s water commission, offering 270 miles of shoreline with fish coves, deep waters and multiple launching ramps. In addition to sports and water play, Spicewood offer the fortunate lakeside residents the best of waterfront living; complete with sunsets, fireflies, private decks and swaying cattails.

Spicewood offers plenty of opportunities for golf enthusiasts—whether you happen to be a beginner or duffer, or even a seasoned professional—to enjoy a game of golf. Communities such as Flintrock Falls and The Highlands feature challenging courses that will suit any player’s level. The homes are situated around the Flintrock Falls championship golf course, which was designed by Jack Nicklaus and his son, are set amid cedar and oak trees, native grasses, natural water hazards and deep bunkers. The Flintrock Falls course is impressive to view and challenging to play. The course measures 7,016 yards and is known for testing the golfer’s second shot. The Highlands, which features waterfront communities and real estate, allows golfers to enjoy scenic shots of Inks Lake at the Highland Lakes Golf Club. No tee time is required at the Highland Lakes Golf Club, making it easier than ever for golfers of all skill levels to come out and enjoy a game or two.
